Oh, the difference a half an hour can make...

Snow had been in the forecast today, but it was sunny most of the day, and I have all but given up hope on snowfall this winter.  Around dinner time, BIG flakes began to fall.  The picture doesn't do them justice.

Starting to snow....

One minute later...
25 minutes....
28 minutes...
34 minutes...
I had just photgraphed these same crocus earlier before the snow.  See the previous post.
39 minutes...
41 minutes...

49 minutes later.  I know, over a half an hour, but we went from dreary winter brown to winter white in the span of about 30 minutes.  It won't last long though.  The forecast is calling for 40* tomorrow and 61* on Tuesday.

Weekly spring update

Here is an update of some of the flowers in the yard.  I really like doing this for comparison from week to week as well as from year to year.  I have been trying to do this on Saturday, but yesterday was so cold and gray.

A friend of mine in St. Louis posted a picture this weekend of her daffodils in bloom.  Soon...
Surprise lillies
This bed is getting redone this spring.  My husband had to dig through it to put electrical in his "man cave".
The lilacs are getting close to getting leaves.

They're back!

The Robins are back!  My husband had seen a couple about a week ago, but I had not.  That all changed this weekend.  We have LOTS of Robins now!
I have also noticed that the geese are pairing up.  Spring is just around the corner...

Great Book

I am currently reading a book that has me ready for planting and wanting to have a hobby farm, if I didn't already have a full time job that is.  The title of the book is The Dirty Life by Kristin Kimball.  Perhaps some of you have already read it.  I cannot remember where I found the book other than somewhere on the internet.  Pinterest perhaps?  What a great find it has been!  Everytime I read, I feel as if I am tranported to the farm and experiencing all of the peaks and valleys these two experience as they start out a new farm.  The transformation in Kristin from New York city girl to farmer is inspiring.  Kristin is a wonderful author that catches your interest early and makes you not want to put the book down for fear of missing the next event/near disaster/victory.
If you haven't already read this book, I highly recommend it.  :)

First Robin

My husband just came home and said that he saw two robins today.  It is always a bit of a challenge between us each year as to who sees the first one.  This year, he wins.  :)

Spring Sprouting Update

I took a cold walk around the yard today to see how my perennials are faring in this crazy weather.  Today's forecasted high is 33*.
One of the best things about blogging is being able to reference previous years to see what particular plants were doing when.

Tufted Titmouse

I have been seeing this little guy at one of my feeders for a few weeks without success at capturing his picture.  Today I had a bit of success and was so excited.

Isn't he cute?  :)
